Our Values: Who we are
We're here for Good. At least that’s our aim! We do not exist for ourselves alone, but also for the good of the community in which we live, work, and play. We have four core values at Church of the Cross:
GOSPEL
God's gift of forgiveness of sin and newness of life in Jesus Christ is freely and abundantly given to us, transforming our relationships with...
GOD Even though we do not deserve it, God has adopted us as His children. We rest as we trust that God has fully reconciled us to Himself. Through faith we are being transformed by His Spirit who dwells in us as we learn to depend on Him instead of ourselves.
PEOPLE Seeing ourselves as forgiven sinners, our hearts are softened towards others, even our enemies. By the Spirit, we are moved to love those around us, especially the bruised, broken and struggling, and forgive those who hurt us or wrong us.
THE WORLD We believe that the Kingdom of God is unfolding in our time and place in ways that touch every aspect of our lives, and we eagerly await the renewal of all things in Christ.

WORSHIP
In our worship of God, we seek…
ROOTEDNESS in the Scriptures and ancient traditions of the Church, utilizing the creeds, liturgy, hymns and songs of the historical church expressed in our cultural context.
BEAUTY in the form and style of our worship, music, liturgy, and even our worship guide draws us to reflect upon the beauty and orderliness of God.
HONESTY in acknowledging the spectrum of belief and doubt that resides in every heart, welcoming people as they are.

COMMUNITY
Living together rooted in God's Word and around God's table, we embrace our common identity in Christ and are moved to...
LOVE ONE ANOTHER as brothers and sisters, sharing our struggles and joys in recognition of our ongoing need for one another.
LOVE OUR NEIGHBORS with whom we meet and live life with each day. We seek to approach our neighbors in a posture of humility, respect, and love seeking their needs above our own.
INVITE people into the Church of the Cross community.

PLACE
We seek rootedness in a transient culture. Whitefish despite being shaped by majestic beauty, outdoor adventure, vibrant community life, and a highly altruistic population is still a place where people yearn for a deep sense of belonging and think and ask deep, meaningful questions about life. We seek to engage our city and its people on the common ground of love for this place. We call our members to consider how they may…
ENJOY this place by worshiping and spending time here, knowing and loving the people by belonging and participating in community activities and organizations.
SERVE this place by seeking its welfare through justice and mercy. We aspire to know and care for the poor, lonely, disenfranchised, and to see our city flourish.
CARRY our vision for the importance of place into their neighborhoods and workplaces, prioritizing relationships with those who are near at home, work, school, worship or play.
